Privacy Policy

The short version

Talkfern is built so that we know as little about you as possible. Your messages, calls, photos, voice notes, documents and status are end-to-end encrypted: only you and the people you talk to can read them. We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.

What we collect

• Account details: your phone number, display name, @username, profile photo and About text.
• Contacts: to find people you know on Talkfern, the app can compare phone numbers from your address book with registered accounts. You can turn off contact access in your phone settings.
• Technical data: device and app version, push-notification tokens, and basic server logs needed to run and protect the service.
• Encrypted content in transit: sealed copies of messages and media that we cannot read.

What we cannot see

We cannot read your messages, listen to your calls or view your photos, videos, documents, voice notes or status updates. Your chat history is stored on your device, not on our servers.

How long things are kept

Encrypted messages and media wait on our servers only until your contact's device receives them, and are deleted after delivery, or after 30 days if a device stays offline. Status updates expire after 24 hours. Disappearing messages are removed from devices after the timer you choose. View-once photos are removed from the recipient's device after they are opened.

Who can see your information

• People you chat with can see your name, photo, About text and, depending on your privacy settings, your last seen.
• In groups, members can see each other. In channels and spaces, members cannot see each other's numbers or profiles.
• Your status is visible only to people who saved you and whom you saved, narrowed by Status privacy.

Service providers

We use trusted providers to run Talkfern: cloud hosting and database services, encrypted file storage, and push-notification and phone-verification services. They process data only to provide those services to us.

Your choices and rights

You can edit your profile, control who sees your photo, About and last seen, block people, and delete your account from the app at any time. Deleting your account removes your profile and ends your sessions. You can ask us questions about your data through Help.

Children

Talkfern is not for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country).
